Kingdom of Saxony

Kingdom of Saxony Army 1810-13

Another project I have been wanting to start for sometime is the Saxon Army mainly from the 1810-1813 period. There are a few 28mm minature companies that make Saxons:
  • Calpe Miniatures
  • Wargames Foundry
  • Westfalia Miniatures
  • Steve Barber Models

However Cavalry and Light Infantry are going to be difficult to find. Westfalia Miniatures are working on Grenadiers in Bearskins which will be top of my list in due course.

2nd Battalion Prinz Anton Infantry Regiment

The Infantry Regiment Prinz Anton took part in the Russian Campaign of 1812. All of the saxon Infantry was incorporated in the 7th Army Corps under the command of General Reynier. The Regiment Prinz Anton was Brigaded with the Saxon 1st Light Infantry Regiment to form the 2nd Brigade of the 21st Division under the command of Lieutenant-General Von Lecoq. The Grenadiers of the Prinz Anton were combined with those of thre Infantry regiment Low to form the Grenadier Battalion Von Anger.

 1st Battalion König Infantry Regiment
In 1810 the Saxon Army was reorganized. There were eight Infantry Regiments formed in the reorganization. An Infantry Regiment had two Battalions. Each Battalion consisted of one Grenadier and four Musketeer Companies. The Saxon Infantry Regiments did not have Voltigeur Companies. The Grenadiers Compnaies of one Brigade formed an independant Grenadier Battalion under the command of a Mjor. Two Infantry regiments with the same facing colour but different button colours formed a Brigade. The Friedrich August Regiment was brigaded with the Infantry Regiment Niesemeuchel. Their Grenadier Companies formed the Grenadier Battalion Brause. The König ("Kings") Regiment saw action in the Russian campaign of 1812. It was part of the 22nd Division (Lieutenant General Gutschmidt) in the VII Army Corps under General Reynier.
